Amstelveen
Amstelveen is a suburb of Amsterdam; the bedroom community full of quiet houses. It is also next to the
Amsterdamse Bos (Amsterdam Woods), the city's only true nature escape. It's a result of a 1930s job creation scheme, and the woods and ponds draw lots of visitors on a sunny day. In the summer months, the forest is also the site of various festivals.
Amsterdam's Modern art museum, the
Stedelijk, has been under construction for years and the exhibition is constantly on the move, so it's not the most reliable place to see some art. In Amstelveen you will find the
CoBrA Museum, which offers an interesting collection from the Abstract Expressionist movement. Formed by artists from COpenhagen, BRussels and Amsterdam after World War II, the museum has a variety of paintings, sculptures, and rotating exhibitions.
