The Dutch have made a great contribution to the world of art, and Amsterdam has extensive collections of the two Dutch Masters: Rembrandt van Rijn and Vincent Van Gogh. A visit to the Van Gogh Museum will give you an in depth look at the artist's work and life, while the Rijksmuseum (National Museum) houses an impressive collection of work by Dutch and Flemish artists, including Rembrandt's famous Nightwatch.
For those interested in the work of Rembrandt or the Golden Age of Amsterdam, a trip to the Rembrandthuis (Rembrandt's house) is a must. Not only do you get to see where Rembrandt lived and worked, you also get to explore the inside of the house where this wealthy business man lived during the 17th Century.
But art and the Golden Age is just the tip of the iceberg. From modern photography, to the history of beer; from sex in the Red Light District to living on water - Amsterdam has museums for all interests. Housed in old factories, churches, wealthy family residences and architectural marvels, even the buildings themselves are a sight.
