Just as the name suggests, Museumplein, or Museum Square is host to some of Amsterdam's most famous museums, including the national museum (Rijks Museum) and the Van Gogh museum. The large square in the centre also host numerous summer concerts and is a popular location for visitors to the cities major festivals such as Queens Day and the Uit Markt. It's a nice central location to get to many of the popular parts of the city including the canals, the Leidseplein and the Pijp.
