NileGuide Expert tip:
From Amalfi the hike to the Valle dei Mulini is not very strenuous, but proper walking shoes are recommended as the pathway is rocky in certain areas.
Description:
Amalfi is situated at the base of a river valley and surrounded by the towering Lattari Mountains. Hiking up into the valley is one of the best things to do in Amalfi, especially for outdoor lovers or families with young children. Follow the Via delle Cartiere to the top of Amalfi and continue along the pathway the winds along the Canneto River. You'll step back in time as you look at the ruins of Amalfi's once busy paper mills, one of the most evocative reminders of the town's prosperity in the Middle Ages. Enjoy the views looking down the valley toward Amalfi as you hike higher and higher. Pack a lunch and enjoy a quick dip in the cold mountain stream, which is particularly refreshing on a hot summer day.
