There are several sites that celebrate all Albuquerque offers. Old Town, founded in 1706, is where Albuquerque began. It's scenic historic streets, shops, galleries and restaurants are well-worth a visit, if just to sit under a shady tree by the cannons and watch the world walk by. Albuquerque loves its mountain, and there's no better way to experience it than to take a ride on the world's longest aerial tram to its peak. For a desert town, Albuquerque has a remarkable aquarium and zoo, featuring local and exotic life. Museums here take you through dinosaurs to the atom bomb, which was developed in New Mexico. The Rio Grande is an important part of Albuquerque's ecology, and you can learn all about it at the Rio Grande Nature Center, which has displays, observation stations and trails through the woods, or bosque, that line the river. If you can't be here in October for the famous Balloon Fiesta, make sure to visit the Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum.
